The iPhone has remained a monolithic product for its entire 6-year existence. Each and every year Apple announces a new iPhone and that is the?iPhone for the next 12 months. In recent update cycles the company has opted to continue selling the old model at a reduced price, but now the rumors of a cheaper iPhone Lite are becoming deafening. New leaks out of China purport to show a fully assembled iPhone Lite in funky colors.
The new device is reportedly being developed with two different specs. The Zenvo is said to be running a H5P dual-core processor from Samsung, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, and supports FDD 4G connectivity. The slightly more expensive version, known as the Zagato or Bertone has a slight processor bump and supports TDD 4G LTE. The LTE arrangement would seem to indicate these devices are for the Chinese market.
The schematics seems to show a device that?s slightly smaller than the existing iPhone 5. For example, there is only space for one speaker on the bottom edge. One of the documents does, however, claim a 4-inch LCD. Resolution is anyone?s guess.
This is by no means a smoking gun. Electronics manufacturers in mainland China have been making clones of the iPhone for the entire time it has existed, and many of them have gotten very good at it. We may just be looking at some especially good copies that happen to have gone all out and used Apple?s logos.
It would not necessarily be a bad idea to make a cheaper iPhone, even if it?s restricted to China. There are a lot of Apple fans there who can?t quite afford the flagship smartphone.
